Got primary education in village Bathnaha, district Sitamarhi, Bihar, and for a brief period at a school in Sursand, where father was working as a teacher at that time.

 

Went to Netarhat School in 1974 batch. Passed matriculation in 1979, obtained silver medal (Ranked in TOP 10) from Bihar School Secondary Examination Board.

Was all India topper of GATE 1985 with a percentile score of 99.89. Did M.Tech. in Energy Studies from IITD with a CGPA of 9.25 on a 10 point scale.

Passed CSIR fellowship test. Received research scholarship at IITD.

Was also the topper of TIFR selection test for research scholars in 1991.

Was also the topper of the written test of NCRA-IUCAA research scholars’ selection test in 1993.
